Da Storm by Originoo Gunn Clappaz (ALBUM REVIEW)

Released in 1996 on Duck Down Records. The OGC is a hip hop trio and are members of the Boot Camp Clik. Members include Starang Wondah, Top Dog and Louieville Sluggah. This is their debut album. While it didn't sell as well as the other Boot Camp debuts, Da Storm is still a fairly good listen. The beats are very chill and dark. No real bangers on this album. The whole album has a very cold and sinister mood to it. Despite the wide variety of producers and co producers on here, the songs vary very little from track to track in terms of tone and tempo. They are all moody and laid back. Thunderclaps and rain sound effects are used here and there to enhance the dark, cloudy feel. Due to the lack of variety, the album does tend to loose steam after a while, but does contain several choice songs. A very interesting album that I had to spend some time with to fully appreciate. Even less stand out tracks are good on their own, but loose power in the flow of entire albums worth of the same mood of music. Nothing gets overly violent or boisterous on here.
