Swing from Berlin (23) Peter Igelhoff - Peter, Peter ! (Wo warst du heute Nacht? - 1941)"Peter, Peter!" (Wo warst du heute nacht? / Where were you last night?) is a popular tune from 1941 of which many versions exist - those by Willy Berking, Michael Jary and RA Dvorsky come to mind . (Ich darf nicht küssen / Uncle doctor told me I'm not allowed to kiss), in "Eine Nacht im Mai" he sang "Im Café am Zoo" . Other extremely popular songs were "Babarabmbu", "In meiner Badewanne bin ich Kapitän" (In my bathtub I'm the captain) and "Dieses Lied hat keinen Text" (This is a song with no lyrics). His light and airy music which was clearly influenced by American jazz and swing music was very popular with the public but not with the nazi government. He was expelled from the Reichsmusikkammer in 1942 and sent to the front. After the war he succesfully resumed his career. He became an ...
