3rd Bass "Pop Goes The Weasel"6th track off Brooklyn rappers 3rd Bass' second LP, "Derelicts of Dialect". Released in 1991. The song's message was similar to "Gas Face", voicing criticism towards the many mainstream commercial rap artists that had been gaining attention in the early 1990s (such as Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer). The song features funk samples from the JB's and Stevie Wonder as well as rock samples of The Who's "Eminence Front", and the foundation sample was from Peter Gabriel's #1 hit, "Sledgehammer". Production came from John Gamble, Geeby Dajani, and Dante Ross (noted for their groundbreaking work on Brand Nubian and Grand Puba's debut albums). 3rd Bass "Wordz of Wisdom" - video on Project PlaceboMC Serch, Pete Nice & DJ Richie Rich were the three founding members of the group known as 3rd Bass. Formed in Queens NYC around 1987, 3rd Bass were notable for being one of the first successful interracial rap groups. In early 1987, MC Serch tried unsuccessfully to join up with the Beastie Boys, yet later signed with Def Jam Records also inheriting the label's feud with the Beasties. Their debut, "The Cactus Album" was released in 1989 to critical-acclaim and went Gold on the success of the single "The Gas Face". Here we have the pseudo-video for the Cactus track "Wordz of Wisdom" which appeared on a VHS (yes, video tape) release. This is the full version as it appeared on the tape...nothing has been edited out. Have fun watching a humorous cameo by comedian Gilbert Gottfried. Enjoy, Placebo.

3rd Bass "Triple Stage Darkness" [HD]3rd Bass portrays a gloomy yet thought provoking words for "Triple Stage Darkness." Only the 3rd verse is shot for the video though. Newly discovered producer Sam Sever samples BT Express "The House is Smokin' " for the main portion of the track. Sam Sever also makes an appearance in the video at 1:04 & 1:09.
